My Best Friend's Brother/The Summer I Turned into a Girl

My Best Friend's Brother/The Summer I Turned Into A Girl is a young adult novel about a teenaged boy named Colin and a teenage girl named Jessica who accidentally switch bodies and have to find their way back into their own. Not only that, but Jessica now has to learn to play soccer for Colin and Colin has to memorize Jessica's dance moves. They have one week to either figure out how to change back or be each other forever. Can they do it? Find out here.

While the book is short and easy to read, the complexity of the situation and Colin and Jessica's reactions to it make for an interesting read. The reader will feel for each of the characters involved, including Cassidy, Colin's sister and Jessica's best friend. While I didn't go deep into the science of body swapping, I did try to convey the emotional side of it, with a realistic view into what it would be like to suddenly find oneself in another's body.

Why I loved this book: because it's fun! Colin and Jessica initially really don't like each other and their only tie to each other is Cassidy, who has no idea her best friend has switched bodies with her brother. It was fun imagining how a boy and a girl would react in this situation and see how they'd get themselves out of it. If you liked the movie Freaky Friday or It's a Boy/Girl thing, then you'll like this book. And if you're still not convinced, check out this awesome review by Josh Terry.

My Brother's Best Friend/Learning to Sing like a Girl

My Brother's Best Friend/Learning to Sing Like a Girl is the official sequel to My Best Friend's Brother/The Summer I Turned into a Girl.
The story follows our heroes, Ian Stokes and Cassidy Jacobs, who were previously introduced in My Best Friend’s Brother/The Summer I Turned Into a Girl. It’s been almost four years since Colin and Jess’ weird body swap, but they hardly think about it anymore. They’re happier than they ever were, even though Colin’s graduating while Jess has one more year of high school.
Ian and Cassidy, on the other hand, can’t stand each other. Once an inseparable couple, they were scorned by unspoken differences between them. Then one day, they butt heads and find themselves inhabiting each other’s bodies. The worst part? Ian’s got a huge soccer game coming up that could get him a good scholarship and Cassidy’s got an audition for the lead in a musical. How will they switch back before then?
Why I love this book: while Cass and Ian find themselves facing the same dilemma that Colin and Jess did years ago, their situation is totally different. Two ex-lovers, now finding themselves in the body of the person they still secretly love? Yeah, I couldn't help myself from writing about that. Plus, it was fun following up with Colin and Jess and seeing how they're doing after the weird condition under which they fell in love.

My Brother's Best Friend/Learning to Sing Like a Girl is now available on Amazon in ebook and paperback as well as on Kindle Unlimited. Get it here.
